RMD MA was established in 2020 as the Massachusetts branch of Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko — a creative Eisa group founded in 1982 in Okinawa, Japan. Our name translates to Ryukyu Kingdom Festival Drums.
Eisa is a dynamic form of folk dance from the Okinawan Islands, once known as the Ryukyu Kingdom. Our performers dance while drumming to a lively mixture of traditional and contemporary Okinawan music, sharing what we call "Kokoro Spirit" with audiences across New England and beyond.

Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Massachusetts RMD MA
Help us showcase Okinawan culture in the Greater Boston Area!
On October 10, 2026, the Massachusetts branch of Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko (RMD) will hold its first-ever anniversary performance at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington, MA.
Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko (RMD) is a performing group dedicated to sharing the vibrant culture of Okinawa and to bridging cultures through eisa: a high-energy folk dance characterized by powerful drumming and synchronized movements. The group is headquartered in Okinawa, Japan, and has 78 active branches in Asia, Europe, and North and South America– including our branch right here in Massachusetts! RMD performances are dynamic and driving, centering Okinawan culture while inviting global connections. RMD inspires and moves hearts through eisa.
This performance will bring talent from all around the world to spotlight Okinawan performing arts.
With approximately 2,500 RMD members worldwide, RMD connects the Okinawan diaspora through a shared "kokoro" spirit: all branches perform the same choreography, allowing for performers to dance together anywhere across the globe.
For DEN, we are inviting members from around the world to join us in celebrating our 6th anniversary, bridging languages and cultures to dance together on stage.
Support Asian performing arts!
Putting on a show like this requires a lot of resources: from advertising and venue rental, to accommodating members from overseas branches who make the trip to support our show as performers on stage. All RMD members volunteer their time and talents to support our activities, and we rely on the generous support of our community to make a self-produced show like this happen.
Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko (MA) is a BIPOC-led, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable under the law.
