Do you truly understand the cost-effectiveness of what is probably your most important advertisement- your website?  Have you ever assessed its effectiveness?  For example; is it telling your story correctly and are you using it to maximum effect?

While you think you know your site (after all you wrote or approved the content, right?) are you really up to date on how the search engines’ PERCEIVE it – and thus, your business model?  Does your website show up in the search engines in the way you think it does or should?

Take the time to assess how you present to potential customers or even if you can be found at all.  To help with this task, Google has provided a fantastic free tool called Google Analytics.  Combined with Google Webmaster Tools, you can setup an account, submit your information and then analyze your website to learn about it from the search engine’s perspective.  Find out if you are telling the correct story to the world and/or seek out answers on to improve upon it.  It’s worth the investment.

Busy with your own business and don’t have time to take on this project?  HostWorks understands and can help you by setting up and managing a Google account for you.  We will then review the data and  present you with a custom road map to a more effective website presence.  Contact us at www.hostworks.com.  We’ve helped many of our clients to improve their web presence-  and we can help  you too.

Where Does Your Paper Come From?

If you care about the environment and want future generations to have the same opportunities that we have, you support sustainability. You want products that are made in a way that can be sustained indefinitely without doing harm. You want paper that comes from a company that ensures forestlands are managed responsibly. Better yet, you want paper that is third-party certified.

But not all paper is certified sustainable. In fact, less than 10% of the world's forests are third-party certified. That seemingly puts a lot of demand on a relatively small resource. Fortunately, if we broaden our understanding of the paper industry as a whole and paper certification in particular, we'll find that it isn't that hard to buy paper we can feel good about.

Here's what you can do – Consider all credible certifications.

Certification in the forestry and paper industry is a growing trend, and credible certification comes from several organizations in North America, including the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®), the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®),  and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC®). These third-party experts set standards and work with an accredited organization to verify a paper company's performance. Their chain-of-custody certification indicates that every phase, from planting and harvesting to transportation and production to sale, has been carried out in a sustainable fashion.

xpedx represents the majority of paper makers in North America, Europe and Asia, and offers the largest selection of papers with recycled content, post-consumer waste content, and third-party certification. In fact, xpedx is the first U.S. paper distributor to receive SFI, FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certification for its 230+ locations across North America and Mexico.

Have you ever needed to visit a site from your Blackberry or iPhone?

For many of us, our mobile devices are usually close by our sides.  Last month, more than 12 million people accessed the Web in the US from a mobile device.
It's easy to use a bit of web programming to automatically detect when someone is visiting your website from a mobile device, and display a more simplified version of your site.
How does this work?

  • When you visit a website, your browser gives the web server a few pieces of information to help make sure the pages that they serve to you render properly.
  • One piece of information is the browser type. We have a database of 250+ mobile browsers that our system recognizes.
  • When someone visits from a normal computer, the php software sends the normal version of the site.
  • When someone is visiting from a mobile device, such as an iPhone or a Blackberry, the php script then detects this and delivers a different version of the site.

Stop Walking Over That Pile of Money

Email marketing has become a common practice for many savvy marketers today, yet there’s an aspect that continues to get overlooked leaving a pile of money going untapped.

Research shows that automated or trigger-based emails are the most opened, read, and acted upon emails. They typically generate open rates over 50 percent of traditional email campaign sends, which can lead to higher interactivity and revenues.

Below are four major types of automated email campaigns that many email marketers frequently neglect:

  • A welcome email message for new members to your mail lists
  • A series of welcome email messages designed to  keep your new email subscribers engaged
  • Event-triggered emails, such as replies to requests, shopping cart abandons, or confirmations
  • And the most common form of automated emails, transactional email messages

Whether welcoming newsletter signups, relaying order confirmations, or sending coupon reminders, we encourage all RMDMA members to take a little time to evaluate their current email programs. You may be missing opportunities to use automated emails to boost response and sales results.
