Spiegel. She has served on the RMDMA Board of Directors for the past three
years, both chairing and co-chairing the Program Committee. Kara's key
initiatives during her term as president were to continue to foster active

Tom Farrell's long and illustrious
RMDMA involvement has been a natural tie-in to a career that spans some
20 years selling and servicing clients in the software, telecom, healthcare,
financial and educational sectors. Whether the medium is TV, mail, phone,
FSI or the internet, he's about as savvy as they come when advising clients
on how to get the most for their marketing buck. Tom joined RMDMA in the
early '90s and was quickly elected to the board. During his stint, he
headed membership and served on the team that launched the DM Certification
program with Regis University.
He assumed the RMDMA presidency
for the '99-'00 term and spearheaded a number of innovations during his
watch. Among them: the day-long seminar by 1:1 marketing maven Martha
Rogers, a first-of-its-kind joint presentation with our cousin organization
Business Marketing Association, the combined Millennium Gala/Direct Marketer
of the Year award ceremony, a streamlined DM Day 2000 which was created
and marketed as a class project of students in the association's CDM course
and record attendance at monthly meetings featuring top-flight speakers
from around the country.
As is customary, Tom will
continue on the RMDMA board for one final year, serving as Past President
in charge of 2000-2001 Direct Marketer of the Year award.
Tom is currently General
Manager of Allison Systems, an access control, perimeter security service
provider.

Ron Kahan started as a telemarketing
sales rep for DialAmerica Marketing at age 18. He won so many national
sales conversion awards he was promoted to Call Room Supervisor within
two years. Moving up through DialAmerica's hierarchy, he became branch
manager of the company's important North Jersey Call Center, then Corporate
Marketing Information Manager in 1989. All this and the guy was just five
years out of high school.
When an AE job opened up
in 1990 at US West's Colorado Data Products Group, Kahan applied for and
won the position. As a National Account Executive he sold US West list
products to Montgomery Ward, Sears, J. Crew, Fingerhut and Spiegel, among
others. Shifting to the company's new Products Group, Kahan helped develop
the first database marketing software and service for small and medium-sized
business ("Sales Edge"). More successes followed including his work on
"Your Value Card," an electronic coupon product that let retailers offer
frequency and monetary-based discounts. In 1994 he won the prestigious
"Dolphin Award" for best major innovative contribution. The drive to start
his own business triumphed in 1995, when he formed RKC Database Marketing
Resources, a consulting firm that focused on the building of sales and
marketing databases. Soon after he formed an alliance with David Ariss.
Their companies merged in 1998.

Ariss Kahan
Database
Marketing
Group, Inc.

David Ariss has been directing
the creation, execution and tracking of large-scale direct marketing programs
for over 20 years. His company, Ariss Agency, Inc., was formed in 1996
as a full service direct marketing agency with such start-up clients as
Promise Keepers and Qwest Communications, both large nationally known
organizations. Prior to forming his own company, Ariss' career included
serving as vice president of direct marketing for a $30 million company,
director of sales & marketing for G. A. Wright Direct Marketing, executive
vice president and publisher of a national magazine, manager at GTE Directory
Company, and owner of The Ariss Group, a firm which specialized in consulting
to magazine and catalog publishers for both advertising sales and direct
marketing to subscribers.
Ariss has the two most important
qualities for a successful direct marketing campaign: talent, and tenacious
competitiveness that keeps him striving for ideas and words that not only
pull - they out-pull the proven champ. He brings comprehensive knowledge
and experience in direct marketing services above and beyond the data,
including creative design, volume print production (both sheet-fed and
web), laser personalization (continuous form or cut-sheet), plastic card
production, unusual mailer construction, and complete lettershop capabilities
including sophisticated match mailings. Perhaps more importantly, rather
than trying to make a client project fit a particular plant, Ariss knows
how to keep client costs down by placing projects where they will run
most efficiently.
A former president and board
of directors member of the Rocky Mountain Direct Marketing Association,
Ariss was recognized for his industry strength by being nominated by his
peers for the prestigious Direct Marketer of the Year Award in 1994. He
is currently a board member of Unlimited Possibilities, a non-profit organization
uniting able and challenged children in sports activities and a Vestry
member of St. Gabriel's the Archangel Episcopal Church. Ariss is a past
board of directors member of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives
and is active in the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors program.
Ariss is a family man, married
to Barbara over 16 years with an 8 year old son (A.J.) who has his brown
belt in karate and Axel, a three year old Giant Schnauzer who absolutely
rules his roost.

As a freelance direct response copywriter,
Susan Fantle has committed over 20 years to helping companies produce
high quality, productive direct marketing programs. After receiving a
B.S.B.A. from the University of Denver, Susan began her career as a copywriter
in a traditional advertising agency. Entering the radio business as a
continuity director and copywriter, she soon migrated into sales, where
she remained for eight years. Sales was the perfect transition into direct
marketing, as direct marketing has the same goal. Susan found her years
as an active member of the Rocky Mountain Direct Marketing Association
to be a rewarding and valuable learning experience. It was also an opportunity
to spread the word about the considerable advantages of this measurable
marketing method. Susan continues to write and consult with companies
doing direct marketing, and hopes that if you're responsible for marketing
decisions, you'll discover this remarkable way to generate leads, sales
and revenue.
